Get to Know Your Running Clubs - Toronto Beaches Runners Club

In this edition of Get to Know Your Running Clubs we chatted with Dave Emilio about the Toronto Beaches Runners Club, a running group based out of the Toronto Beaches area (you may have guessed that from the club name...)

Toronto Beaches Runners Club

Tell us a bit about your club history

I started the club along with a few other like minded runners in the Beach back in 2009 after we found ourselves constantly going out for coffee after morning runs (and pints after the evening runs!).

Since then, the Toronto Beaches Runners Club has grown from a few initial members in 2009 to well over 200 now! It’s no surprise we keep growing as we live in one of the nicest running neighborhood in Toronto!

Nice! Tell us a bit about your members.

The ‘BRC’ is a very social running club but we are not shy of being competitive with many age-group podium placement runners of all ages and many swift marathoners in the 3 hour range and below.

That said, the main thing about our members is that we all love to run, for fun and for sport. As a club with runners of all fitness levels, we have room for everyone!

Where/when do you usually meet?

The best way to keep up to date on when we run is to follow our Facebook page at

We currently run every Saturday, 8:30 am by the Starbucks across from the Beaches Running Room where we have exclusive 'all inclusive' 1 hour runs. This means we meet up formally, but anyone is welcome to join in. One hour means we all do a slightly different distance and all finish together on an out and back route.

Any cost to be a member/join?

Membership is free with the only costs being for optional apparel and the occasional club social.

Are you affiliated with any events?

Yes! We have several affiliations. We are the Race Directors for the Tannenbaum 10k in December and the Beaches Jazz Run in July. We also provide 40+ volunteers for the Sporting Life 10k starting area, and the Queen St location of the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon.

Where are your favourite spots to run in/around the city?

The Leslie Spit - Lighthouse Route, AKA The Martin Goodman Trail & Tommy Thompson Park, starting from the Boardwalk at the foot of Lee ave, is a spectacular traffic free run!

We also like to venture into Taylor Creek Park/Sunnybrook Park for some more traffic free running, especially Spring to Autumn.

Do you have any favourite local race? Outside of anything that you are affiliated with of course :)

We rarely miss out on the Beaches Spring Sprint 5k, the MEC series races and many of our ladies run the Toronto Women's Series races.

Anything else that we should know?

We love meeting other runners so come visit us anytime. Visit us on social media and let us know you're coming, and by all means, let us know when we can come join your crew!
