Get to know your running clubs - Running for a Purpose

In this edition of Get to Know Your Running Clubs we chatted with Karl Noelle about the Running for a Purpose Run Club. You’ll often find them running around the Chain of Lakes area of Minneapolis.

Hi Karl! Who are you? Give us your best one line bio

Hi there! I’m a designer, runner and organizer of Running for a Purpose.

Tell us a bit about the club history

We are an active group of runners that are currently training for a race or just love to run. Everyone is welcome at all paces and abilities! We meet regularly on Saturday mornings at Lake Calhoun's Tin Fish Restaurant, but love running all week long.

We’ve been holding weekly group runs since 2010.

Nice! Tell us a bit about your members, what level of runners typically run with you?

Our group is open to all speeds and abilities! After our group picture, runners break into groups based on the pace they’re looking for.

Where/when do you usually meet and run?

We meet at the Tin Fish every Saturday morning at 9:00am.

Any cost to be a member/join?

Nope, it’s ALWAYS FREE!

Where are your favourite spots to run in/around the city?

I love the Chain of Lakes and hooking into the Mississippi. Basically if there’s water, I’ll run around or next to it.

Do you have any favourite races? Outside of anything that you’re affiliated with :)

Grandma’s Marathon is always a gorgeous course to run in Duluth. It’s an excellent excuse to grab some friends and roadtrip for the weekend.

Anything else that we should know?

After each Saturday run, we meet at the Caribou Coffee inside Lund’s off of Lake Street in Uptown. We like to unwind from the run and hang out for a bit before starting the weekend. Weekly events are created through our Facebook group which I encourage people to join if they’d like updates. We also have a Thursday night workout class called "Mixtape" led by a personal trainer friend of ours. The class is free and lasts for 1 hour. Anyone looking to improve their general or running fitness is welcome to join! Beer usually follows the Thursday night sessions :)
