From roads to trails, and social runs to marathon training clinics, there’s a run group in Calgary for you. Cold winters are no excuse with many groups offering indoor track workouts, or layer up and brave the elements with your new found run buddies!

Big Rock Runners

The details: Saturday, 9.00am @ Okotoks Recreation Centre

Bit about them: Whether you’re looking for a speedy run, a social jog or a casual walk, this group will welcome you with open arms. Their Saturday mornings always finish up with a post-run coffee, so no matter what your pace, there’s a chance to catch-up with the rest of the group after.

Calgary Frontrunners

The details: Saturday, 9.00am @ Calgary Eau Claire YMCA

Bit about them: With groups catering to all paces and a variety of distances, Frontrunners was formed by a group of runners who participated in the Gay Games in Vancouver in 1990, and wanted to promote health and wellness in the local LGBT community. Anyone is welcome to join their weekly runs, and most weeks the run finishes up with coffee or breakfast.

Calgary RoadRunners

Bit about them: Join their 10k, Half Marathon or Marathon training groups for weekly structured workouts, or hit up their Sunday long runs and monthly club nights if you’re looking for something more casual. Either way this club will help you meet your running goals, whether it’s a PB or just to get out there more often.

The details: Various times and locations

Bit about them: Aimed at helping you elevate your running to the next level from a young age, the Spartans offer a series of paid membership options to help you reach your competitive goals. There are options for all distances in track and field as well as on the road, and numerous training options too.

Calgary Trail Runners

The details: Tuesdays, 6.30pm, Various locations

Bit about them: Whether you’re just getting started on the trails or your training for your tenth ultra, this fun and super casual group will welcome you. Runs are more of a casual meet up than an organised event, and they often host additional weekend adventures for a chance for the group to get in some more time on the trails.

Red Rock Runners

Bit about them: A fun and welcoming group with a focus on the social side of training, this group have options for everyone. Join one of their spring training clinics if you’re focussing on a local race, or show up to a social run if you just want some motivation to get out the door.

Wild Moose Running Club

The details: Thursdays, 7.00pm @ Wild Rose Tap Room

Bit about them: Love beer but want a reason to earn that second pint? This group can help! Join them for a leisurely 5k run (they have a strict ‘no-drop’ policy) then enjoy a post-run beverage - simple.
