Hi Tanya! Who are you?

I am the Development Manager at Girls on the Run of Atlanta, which means I have the fun and meaningful job of giving amazing, generous people the opportunity to provide girls in need with Girls on the Run scholarships!

Tell us a bit about your club's history

Girls on the Run of Atlanta has been around for 17 years! We love our metro Atlanta community. During this time, we have impacted the lives of more than 20,000 girls. As part of the program, more than 50% of our participants receive financial assistance. Some of our supporters include our SoleMates who are training for an athletic event while raising funds for our scholarship program.

Nice! what sort of runners typically run with the group?

The cool thing about SoleMates, our charity running program, is that you can be a runner or other athlete of any ability. Whether you're training for your first 5k, getting ready to hike part of the AT, or preparing for an Ironman, you can be one of SoleMates and make a difference in the lives of girls.

Where/when do you usually meet and run?

SoleMates get to choose their own schedules as they train for their events.

Any cost to be a member/join?

There is a $26 fee to sign up as a SoleMate, but then we'll send you a SoleMates tech shirt, special thank-you cards for your top 10 donors, sample training plans, a link to your very own easy-to-use crowdfunding webpage, and some fun Girls on the Run goodies! We'll provide plenty of personal encouragement along the way as well as all the FUNdraising tools you'll need to raise money for Girls on the Run scholarships for our community's girls.

Is your club affiliated with any events?

We provide our SoleMates with a complimentary entry to one of our Girls on the Run 5Ks. The Girls on the Run 5K is the largest 5k series in the country and each one (fall/spring) is a huge celebration of health, joy and confidence in the heart of our city!

Do you personally have any favourite local races?

Too many to list here! The Atlanta 10 Miler & 5K, the Atlanta Women's 5K and the Run Like a Girl 5K are three great ones. We also love the Atlanta BeltLine's series as well as the fun runningnerds runs and of course the Girls on the Run 5K! We're also proud to partner with the Rock 'n' Roll Savannah Marathon & 1/2 Marathon, for which we can offer our SoleMates complimentary entries!

Anything else that we should know?

Girls on the Run of Atlanta inspires girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running.

Our after-school program is a physical activity-based positive youth development (PYD) program that is designed to enhance girls' social, psychological and physical skills and behaviors to successfully navigate life experiences. The program's intentional curriculum places an emphasis on developing competence, confidence, connection, character, caring, and contribution in 3rd-8th grade girls through lessons that incorporate running and other physical activities. The life skills curriculum is delivered by kind and competent coaches who are trained to teach lessons as intended.

Our SoleMates are caring adults who raise money for the amazing girls who participate in our program through scholarships.
