Get to Know Your Running Clubs - RunNinjas
In this edition of Get To Know Your Running Clubs we spoke with Jim Willett, ultrarunner, adventurist, coach and trainer of Ninjas! You'll most often find the RunNinjas sneaking around North York, East Don Parkland, as far north as Steeles and as far south as Edwards Gardens.

Hi Jim! Tell us a bit about your club history, how long has the club been around?
We started in Barrie about 3 years ago, but the North York crew has only gotten going this year with the opening of the new MEC on Sheppard.
Tell us a bit about your members! What level of runners do you cater to?
We try to cater to everyone! But we're certainly not as fast as some of the crews in the city. A lot of the runners here are just trying to get stronger and faster, maybe run their first half-marathon or marathon. And our goal is to leave no one behind!
Where/when does your club usually meet/run?
We meet at MEC North York (784 Sheppard Ave. East)
Wednesdays at 6:00 pm we do interval training (usually in the 8 or 9km range)
Saturdays at 8:30 am we do a longer casual run (usually in the 11 to 13 km range)
Are your group runs mostly casual or more structured workouts?
Mix of casual runs and structured workouts.
Any cost to be a member/join?
Nope! Just a willingness to sweat.
Is your group affiliated with any events?
MEC hosts a number of races all over the city.
Any cool routes/ favourite areas to run in your city that you would like to recommend to other runners? Why do you like those?
We love doing runs where we get to connect all the amazing parks of North York. You get to mix the urban with a little bit of nature.
Do you have any favourite local races? Outside of anything that you're affiliated with of course :)
Toronto Waterfront Marathon of course! The hype, the people, the Six!
Anything else that we should know?
If you've never run with a crew, you should definitely get out there and do it! The energy is amazing and motivational. And you'll get to build amazing friendships with awesome people.
