Get to Know Your Running Clubs - Carrollton Runners Club

In this edition of Get To Know Your Running Club we spoke with Ruben Saguil, the primary club volunteer of the Carrollton Runners Club.  You’ll find the Carrolloton Running Club most often running around McInnish Park and Josey Ranch Athletic Complex.

Want to learn more about them? Read on!

Tell us a bit about your club history, how long has the club been around?

Our Club started in 1986 but the current version started in 2008.

Tell us a bit about your membership? What level of runners do you cater to?

We have members of all levels with the fastest 5k in the 16-minute range and walkers doing it in an hour.

Where/when does your club usually meet/run?

We meet on the 3rd and last Sundays of the month year-round, either at Josey Ranch Athletic Complex or McInnish Park.

Any cost to be a member/join?

Prepaid runners get a permanent chip-enabled bib good for all future CRC events.

Anuual Race Fees (expire on Dec 31st) are:

  • $20 for 12-events Individual
  • $30 for 12-events Family
  • $35 for 24-events Individual
  • $50 for 24-events Family

Is your group affiliated with any events?

The club has been helping the City of Carrollton host the annual Carrollton Trails 5K since 2012.

Any cool routes/ favourite areas to run in your city that you would like to recommend to other runners? Why do you like those?

The Blue Trails (where the Carrollton Trails 5K are held) is fast and downhill. The Green Trails by Josey Ranch Athletic Complex runs along the creek.

Do you have any favourite local races? Outside of anything that you're affiliated with of course :)

Since we are a Sunday club, we support races that other (Saturday) area clubs host. Most of our runners also belong to other clubs, we're okay with that.

Anything else that we should know?

Our runs are chip-timed. Since we do the same thing every month, we are able to recognize runners who are improving (setting PR's) at our races.
