5 Peaks Northern Alberta Race 3
This 5 Peaks event taking place in Camrose features a variety of races including a 1K Childrens Challenge, a 3K Timed Kids Race, an 8K Sports Course and a 12.5K Enduro Course.
This race happens out in Camrose on the trails of the Camrose ski club. Expect some great scenery, and a fun day out on the trails!
Spectators are always welcome and participants can expect the usual well run 5 Peaks race complete with post race awards for the top three male and female finishers in each age category in all distances, as well as top three male and female finishers overall.
This course is mostly single track and nordic ski trails.
The race starts at the Biathlon Stadium and opens with a long downhill run into the valley. The first 2.5km are on the Nordic ski trails and will feature two steep climbs from the valley bottom to the top of the bank. At 2.5km the course crosses the stream and narrows into a fun rolling single track section for 2.5km. This section will have you running directly into the sun so be caution of sun/heat exposure.
At 5.0km runners will reach the first Aid Station and split point for Sport and Enduro Course. For the Enduro runners, you will head through the Trussel Bridge into Happy Valley. Once past the bridge Enduros will make a steep climb to the top of the bank then traverse across the top until descending back into the valley at 5.8km. The next section will be a rolling climb through the trees until you break out at 6.5km, there you will be at the top of a massive descent with a spectacular view. You will make a wild drop back into the valley and proceed on double track to the south end of the course.
At 7.5km you will head back into the trees for a moderate climb to the turn-around point at 8.0km. From there you head back towards the Trussel Bridge along the valley bottom with two bridge crossings. You then head back through the Trussel Bridge to hit the Aid Station and rejoin the Sport Course. Once through the Aid Station all runners will cross a bridge at 5.0/9.5km and begin the next section of single track. This section has a sustained climb to the top of the bank. At 5.6/10.1km the course has a fun descent through the trees to the valley bottom. From there runners will make their way through a tight single track until 6.5/11km.
Final 1.5km is on Nordic trails has two tough climbs before finishing back at the Stadium. Runners are reminded to be kind when passing/being passed.
