Surly Trail Loppet
The Surly Brewing Co. Trail Loppet isn't your regular race. It's an urban adventure that takes runners through the Twin Cities. Runners will take the trails that weave through the city and experience sites that regular races can't offer. The first wave kicks off at 9 am with the final wave moving out at 10:15 am. Runners will traverse the trails around the city until they reach the finish line where there will be food and beer available and an awards ceremony that starts at noon.
Honestly, the Trail Loppet is challenging. There are big hills and there are narrow trails with rocks and logs. Runners cross many intersections. The organizers have marked the course well, but runners need to stay focused in order to stay on the trail. A varied and beautiful course, participants might see a turkey or a fox on their journey. All three events – the half-marathon, the Salomon 13.1K and the Finn Sisu 5K, are a mix of asphalt paths (about 25%) and narrower dirt and grass trails and paths. Runners in the Half-Marathon go under Highway 55, and the Half-Marathon and 13.1K both go under Glenwood Avenue. Runners cross a boardwalk over Wirth Lake and they also climb to the top of the snowboard hill. On their way, runners encounter quiet lakes and trails. The Surly Trail Loppet is both a race and an adventure a challenging course with big hills, narrow trails, rocks and logs that you'll be waiting to conquer.
