Race Information
The Terry Fox Run is an annual Canada wide event (actually hundreds of locally organized events) that help to raise money and awareness for cancer research.
The runs are a legacy to Terry Fox's Marathon of Hope which took place in 1980 with the simple objective of informing Canadians of the importance of finding a cure for cancer. With fierce determination, Terry, who was diagnosed with bone cancer, ran an average of 42 kilometres (26 miles) every day for 143 days. Terry was forced to end his run on September 1, 1980 when the cancer spread to his lungs.
The Terry Fox run happens in multiple locations on the same day. There are no entry fees, and while donations are encouraged, there are no minimum donations required. The simple act of support and continued awareness keeps the spirit and goal of the run alive.
Hundreds of runs happen across Canada. Information about Terry Fox Runs in the Ottawa area can be found Here.
