Five Must Run Portland Fun Runs

The Portland running community is one of the best in the world, and the event schedule is proof enough that the city’s competitive spirit is alive and well. Taking your running seriously is the only way to progress, but it’s also a great feeling to just enjoy a day or night out running with your friends with no times on the line. These five Portland fun runs are sure to put a grin on even a seasoned marathoner’s face.

Color Me Rad

Color Me Rad 5k Portland

This fun run is one of the few in the country that incorporates “color bombs”, brightly colored poufs of cornstarch, and turns the (mandatory) bland white clothes of participants into hippy tie dye in the span of 5 kilometers. Romp through Portland and put on your (possibly literally, by the end of the race) rose colored glasses.

Winter Wonderland of Lights Run

Get in the holiday spirit, and run through the “largest holiday light show west of the Mississippi!” Runners can prance through the loop once, twice, or even three times, as this race offers 2, 4, or 6 mile registrations (with each loop being 2 miles). Celebrate once you’re done with hot food, drink, and a cold beer.

Hoppity Hops Run

There can’t be a much better tagline for a spring fun run than “Celebrating the dual holidays of Easter and Beer.” This event has 5k and 9k options, and strongly encourages bunny ears and general Easter and spring themed costumes. The event culminates in a grand party at the Spring Wine and Beer festival, so you’re guaranteed to have a spring in your step once it’s all over.

The Color Run

The Color Run Portland

Known as the “happiest 5k on the planet,” this race involves participants running through clouds of colored cornstarch “color bombs.” The crowd is generally a bit on the younger side, with an easy course. This event doesn’t focus on time, it’s about being healthy and happy. Come out for this cheerful 5k and lift your spirits!
