El Chupacabra de San Antonio
Don't miss this night time trail run with a 9:00 pm start for the 10K. The 5K starts at 9:05. Where else do you get a chance to hunt El Chupacabra, the legendary goat-eating beast of Mexican legend? Participants take on the dark of night through McAllister Park, braving the trail with the aid of a head lamp. Those who make it to the finish alive are rewarded with beer and barbeque, along with music until 12:30 am.
The start and finish is at Classic Elite Soccer Complex across from Blossom Athletic Center, 11600 Starcrest, San Antonio 78216. The actual start is on top of the dam south of the police station. It is about 1/4 mile from packet pickup and the finish is inside of the soccer complex.The course runs thorugh heavily wooded dirt trails in the pitch dark. A flashlight or headlamp is required and indeed necessary for success on the course. Trails are marked with signage and glow sticks in the trees, note that the glow sticks do not illuminate the course.
