5 Must Run Vancouver 10k Races
Try to run every 10k race in Vancouver and you’ll find yourself out running nearly every single week of the year. There are a number of excellent races that happen all over Vancouver, and if you have a limited number of race dates it can be tough to pick out a race list. RunGuides has compiled a few races to get you started in our list of five Vancouver 10k runs that every runner should check out!
With over 50,000 participants each year the Sun Run is the granddaddy of all Vancouver 10k races. This run has a fantastic atmosphere, a scenic route, and enough small hills to make it an interesting course. Every year tens of thousands of spectators come out en masse to line the streets of Vancouver and cheer on the multitude of runners who race this event. The Sun Run is a unique “big race” 10k experience, and a must run event for every Vancouver runner.
The Vancouver Eastside 10k is one of the newest runs put on by the Canada Running Series of events. CRS has a history of well run events (no pun intended), and has put together a unique course through Vancouver’s historic Gastown district. Runners get to follow a 5k out and back course through eclectic neighbourhoods that are usually tough to run in due to heavy traffic. The opportunity to run through a closed off Gastown should be too much for any runner to pass up, and makes the Eastside 10k a top Vancouver pick.
The Summerfast 10k has consistently stayed true to its name over the race’s 20+ year history in Vancouver. This 10k run typically happens in July and draws a who’s who of runners from local Vancouver running clubs into a sold out field of around 400 people. The race itself usually loops Stanley Park giving participants a fast, flat route with exceptional views. Expect a great day, a strong community vibe, and some fast times at the annual Summerfast race.
The Chilly Chase has a few different distance options, we like the 10k because it’s long enough to make you sound tough, but not an unnecessarily long amount of time spent out in the cold Vancouver winter weather (who are we kidding, it will probably be raining and 10 degrees out). This event follows an out and back course along the seawall giving racers some fantastic winter views of Vancouver. Several hundred Vancouverites regularly participate in this winter 10k tradition, and the number of entrants has increased each year since its inception.
The Granville Island Turkey Trot 10k is a family friendly race that follows a path around the False Creek portion of the Vancouver Seawall. This race prides itself on excellent organization, and some of the best post race food that you can find after a 10k event. Enter this race and you’ll find yourself mixed in with well over 1,000 participants, all looking to burn off the previous night’s Thanksgiving dinner.
