Race Information

In 2007 the founding board members of the Run for Water Society conceptualized a unique event to be hosted in Abbotsford, British Columbia.  The vision was to stage a top tier internationally recognized running event that would attract a wide range of participants and athletes and, at the same time, raise awareness - and funds - for people in the developing world who lack one of life's basic necessities - clean water.  Since 2008, this volunteer board has staged an annual run which has grown to include a gala event, a race expo and extensive involvement with students who learn about what it means to become compassionate global citizens.  All the funds raised - over $500,000 to date - go towards helping building clean water projects in some of the most remote and desolate areas of southern Ethiopia.

Course Information

Half Marathon:

The half marathon course is fairly flat and fast, looping into the beautiful Sumas Prairie. The course should invite runners to aim for Personal Best's with only a very slight and steady decline and incline going in and out of Mill Lake Park. This course is open to runners & walkers. Participants must be 14 years old or older to regsiter for the half marathon.

10k Run:

The 10K course has been modified to be less congested and safer for runners or walkers. It overlaps with the half marathon and marathon for some of the initial and final distance and also works to incorporate some of the paved trails in Mill Lake Park. It promises to be a fast course as well, with very little elevation change from start to finish.

5k Run:

The 5K course can be run competitively or for the sheer fun of participating in this great community event. There will be staggered starts at the beginning to ensure that competitive runners are free from any significant congestion. The course has been altered this year to avoid some of the bottlenecks encountered in previous years. The trails of Mill Lake Park are a significant feature of the family-friendly course.
