Austin Trail Race Series Guide

Run Fact! Trail runners help keep Austin weird! How do they do this? Okay, maybe they aren't THAT weird, but running over hill & dale (and through woods) for distances up to 100 miles is mildly unusual, isn't it? Austin's trail runners are certainly a lucky bunch, with an excellent collection of trail races series to choose from. Please note that while many of these races are in the Austin area, some of the series events require a bit of Texas travel.

Texas XTERRA Trail Run Series

The 2017 Texas XTERRA Trail Run Series consists of 6 events at some of the most popular venues in the central Texas region. Each event offers participants the choice of two or three distances. Runs are broken up into gender and age based categories, and a special designation for challenged athletes.

How many donuts can you justify for running the entire series?

You can happily eat 8 donuts when you complete the XTERRA trail series, just remember to have some leafy greens once in awhile too.

Do you get anything cool for completing the entire series?

Participants accumluate series points towards regional XTERRA trail run champion status. The points are awarded only for the longest distance run at each event.

 

2017 Texas Trail Running Championship Series

This Texas-sized trail running series has events in the Austin area, but also sends you chasing trails around the state. The series is broken into Spring and Fall races. You'll score points in trail races throughout the great state of Texas, as well as the Austin area. The goal of the series is to have fun and connect the trail running community here, there and everywhere. Participants choose from several ways to score in the series.

What are the races?

Total distance if you run all the events: 762 km (473.5 miles)

How many hard-earned tasty donuts can you justify by running all the events?

That's a lot of running and racing! just back up your car to the donut shop and fill the trunk with donuts.

Do you get anything cool for completing the entire series?

Points are accumulated over the series towards trophies and race discounts, while the top club gets a cooler full of beer!

 

Women on the Trails Race Series

These fun and challenging races are for women new to the adventurous world of trail running, as well as experienced runners looking for a fresh challenge, off the roads. Remember being a kid and running through the woods, chasing butterflies, catching frogs and coming home with dirty clothes and leaves in your hair? The Women on the Trails Series is primed to bring it all back!

What are the races?

Total distance if you run all the events: 15 - 41.1km (9.3 - 25.5 miles)

How many delicious donuts does running the entire series justify?

Donuts!

We feel four donuts is perfect here - one per race, plus a bonus donut for completing the series!

Do you get anything amazing for completing the entire series?

There is no official series award, but you get a women's top and a unique finisher's gift with each race.

 

2017 Rogue Trail Series

The 14th annual Rogue Trail Series is here, and set to provide another round of memorable, rough-around-the-edges race experiences that has made them a local favorite! Here's three separate events at three separate parks, each with its own unique atmosphere and terrain. Each event will offer a 10K and a 30K race, allowing everyone a taste of trail racing.

Total distance is you run the entire series: 30 - 90km (18.6 - 55.9 miles)

How many donuts can you throw down the gullet for all that hard running?

Yo, donuts!

Completion of the series merits consumption of half a dozen donuts - but those hearty souls running the 30k distance at each race are granted license to knock down a full ten donuts!

Do you get any cool stuff for running the entire series?

Each race is a standalone event with its own swag and awards, and the third race will double as a Series Championship where the combined times of all three races will determine your final standing.

 

Spectrum Trail Series

Spectrum Trail Racing is a high caliber series of trail running races mostly clustered around Austin, with a couple of runs in other parts of Texas. You can expect stunning courses, a lively community of runners, and an outstanding post-race celebration, full of local color.

Total Distance if you run all the events: 97.2 - 356.6 km (60.4 - 221.6 miles) + the 12-hour run!

How many guilt-free donuts can you knock down if you run all the events?

Donuts

You've easily merited consumption of 8 delicious donuts. If you've done at least one of the longest runs at any event, bring that total to an even dozen.

Do you get anything extra cool for completing the entire series?

It's all about the afterparty! Eat and drink fine local fare, enjoy live music under the stars, and share race stories with your fellow runners. You're there for the whole weekend, right? Enjoy!
