Every May, the city of San Francisco embraces the celebratory spectacle of the Bay to Breakers 12k run. This year, May is also chock full of amazing trail runs in the nooks and crannies of the beautiful Bay Area, with several road and OCR races thrown in for good measure.

This storied run is a true reflection and celebration of life between the Ocean Beach breakers and the San Francisco Bay. The costumes are wild & crazy, and of course this is a parade as much as a run. Speedy runners can apply to start in the seeded section to get a clean, quick start just behind the elite runners.

Armed Forces Half Marathon

The course takes runners from the downtown Concord area up Willow Pass and into the Naval Weapons Station. Hit your stride and work for it, and the mostly-flat course is sure to yield a quick half marathon performance for your efforts.

LMJS Fourth Sunday Runs

For this convivial series of monthly runs around Oakland's Lake Merritt, the course is mostly flat and fast, with just a few small rises. There's a great community vibe and kid's races, but this is also a great course to smoke a fast time on!

Starting at Inspiration Point, this scenic 10-mile course traces the crest of the Berkeley Hills along the Nimitz Way, a wide paved path, for the first four miles. Runners continue on a dirt trail to the turnaround then grind their way back to the start.
