Toronto Runs You Might Like - June

The summer race season is underway and there are a TON of events happening in and around Toronto. We've picked a few road runs, trail runs, and obstacle course races that you might like. All happening in June. 

Road Runs 


Ride For Heart Run/Walk

Date: June 4, 2017
Distance: 5k, 10k

The Heart & Stroke Foundation's Run/Walk & Ride for Heart gives runners a unique opportunity to run on a completely traffic-free Gardiner Expressway. In the past this event was limited to cyclists, this year runners are finally able to take part in the event with both 5k and 10k run, and 5k walk routes available. 

Barrie Half Marathon, 10k, 5k, and Kids Run

Date: June 4, 2017
Distance: 5k, 10k, Half-marathon

Take the 401 north up to Barrie and you can run a 5k, 10k or half-marathon along downtown Barrie's waterfront on the shores of Lake Simcoe.

Band on the Run

Date: June 10, 2017
Distance: 5k, 10k, half-marathon 

If cottage country is more your cup of tea, the annual Band on the Run is a hilly race through Muskoka that ends in a pretty sweet afternoon music festival. Former headliners include Jim Cuddy and the Sheepdogs. This year it's east coasters Hey Rosetta!

Divas Half-marathon & 5k Toronto

Date: June 11, 2017
Distance: 5k, half-marathon 

The Divas Half Marathon and 5k is one of North America's largest women-focused running events with multiple races across the continent. This year Toronto has been chosen as the first Canadian race destination.

Toronto Waterfront 10K

Date: June 17, 2017
Distance: 10k

The Toronto Waterfront 10k is a fast downtown dash put on in partnership between lululemon and Canada Running Series. The race brings in elite runners from around the world and has a reputation for being well-organized, well-corralled, full of spirit and crowd support. 

Editor's Note: The 2017 race sold out before we published this article, it should be a good one to watch it you're not running on the 17th! 

Niagara Ultra

Date: June 17, 2017
Distance: 10k, half-marathon, marathon, 50k 

For those looking for a different view of Lake Ontario, the Niagara Ultra will take you along the paved trails by one of Canada's most famous natural sights. Bonus for walkers - you can participate in all of the race lengths provided you can complete them in the allotted time. This event is another OUTRace run, scoring participants points in the series.

Waterloo 10k Classic

Date: June 18, 2017
Distance: 3k, 5k, 10k

An annual 3k, 5k, or 10k road race and a popular one, to boot! The Waterloo 10km Classic is a family-friendly Waterloo region event with refreshments, entertainment, prizes and giveaways.

Pride and Remembrance Run

Date: June 24, 2017
Distance: 5k, Other 

If you definitely want to stay in the city as the summer heats up, the annual Pride and Remembrance Run is always a good time because it coincides with Toronto's Pride Parade. Walk the 3k course or run the full 5k before the parade begins.

MEC Toronto Road Race FOUR

Date: June 25, 2017
Distance: 5k10k, half marathon

The fourth race of MEC Toronto's season is a 5k, 10k, and half marathon that happens at Tommy Thompson Park. Expect all the usual goodness from MEC; a chip timed course, post race bananas, and sub $20 entry fees if you sign up in advance!

Trail Runs


5 Peaks Ontario Race 2

Date: June 10, 2017
Distance: 1k kids race, 2k, 3k Children's Challenge, 5.3k, 12.7k

The second 5 Peaks Ontario race of the season takes place at Rattlesnake Point and features a number of different distance options for adults as well as kids!

Conquer the Canuck

Date: June 10, 2017
Distance: 8.33k, 25k, 42.195k, 50k, 92.195k 

Part of the Ontario Ultra and Trail Series (OUTRace), Conquer the Canuck features a number of different distance options for all levels of trail ambition. The race happens near Cambridge, about an hour west of Toronto. Important to note that the 92.195k race is done in two days with a 50k on day one and the marathon on day two.

Pure Grit Trail Race

Date: June 24, 2017
Distance: 2.5k kids run, 7.5k, 15k, 30k

The South Bruce Peninsula is definitely a bit of a drive from Toronto, but the scenery is worth the drive alone. Pure Grit features a combination of double and single track trails, distances include a 2.5k kids run, 7.5k, 15k, and 30k. This run is part of the OUTRace series.

Obstacle Course Races


Rugged Maniac

Date: June 3, 2017
Distance: 5k ish of obstacle course fun

Rugged Maniac gives OCR fans a chance to run a 5-kilometer course where you’ll climb towers of shipping containers, rocket down a massive water slide, bounce on trampolines, leap over fire and more! The GTA event happens at Chicopee Ski & Summer Resort in Kitchener.

City Chase Toronto

Date: June 24, 2017
Distance: Varies

The GoodLife Fitness City Chase is Canada's largest urban adventure series where teams of two people race around their city completing an array of different challenges.

Teams are given clue sheets that give them locations around Toronto dubbed ChasePoints. They have to get to ChasePoints using their own two feet or public transit and complete various challenges. Once teams complete a certain number of ChasePoints they race back to the start line as fast as they can.

If your team is lucky enough to be the first one back you go on to the national championships where you compete against championship teams from other Canadian cities for big prizes and all of the glory.

Spartan Race Toronto

Date: June 24 & 25, 2017
Distance: Roughly 5k - 16k

If you haven't heard of it the Spartan Race is an obstacle course race where participants attempt to run through numerous obstacles as fast as possible. The race will take place at Ski Brimacombe and features two distances; Sprint (around 5k) and Super (roughly 14k - 16k). All the action happens at Ski Brimacombe.
