Get To Know Your Running Clubs - Westhills Warriors Run Club

It’s another edition of Get to Know Your Running Clubs! This time we chatted with Perri about the Running Room’s Westhills Warriors Run Club.

Want to learn more about them? Read on!

Tell us a bit about yourself and the group history.

I’m the assistant manager at Westhills and a leisurely runner.

The club has been around as long as the store's been open; our group has grown from 4 members in 2013 to a steady 20+ recently!

Nice! Tell us a bit about your members and who you cater to?

Everyone! Our Learn to Run group is beginning to build a cardio base with walk/run intervals right now, while the 5K/10K/Half Marathon/Marathon groups are full of runners doing their first race at that distance or looking for a new PR.

Where/when do you usually meet?

Every week we have free runs on Wednesday evenings at 6:30 and Sunday mornings at 8:30. Paid clinic nights are usually Mondays or Thursdays, and those leave from the store as well. Longer runs for the half marathon and marathon groups can often choose to meet at different spots!

Any cost to be a member/join?

Free on Wednesdays and Sundays, Learn to Run, 5K and 10K clinics are $79.99 and Half Marathon and Marathon clinics are $89.99

Is your group affiliated with any events?

A ton of events! Races we sponsor can be found on the events page of our website.

Where are your favourite spots to run in/around the city?

Edworthy Park, the Glenmore Reservoir, Sandy Beach, Griffith Woods, the Westhills stairs!

Do you have any favourite local races? Outside of anything that you’re affiliated with :)

The Night Race is really fun! Also, the Shopper's Drug Mart Run for Women is fun and for a great cause. Families and dog lovers should definitely check out the AARCS Doggone Running 5K/1 mile doggy dash at the end of May!

Anything else that we should know?

Our groups are very inclusive and this is a good place to start if you are new to running, have taken a break or are concerned about your cardio level and heart health. The run/walk system is very doable! Also, you are more than welcome to bring your canine companion to join your run :)
