Tell us a bit about your club history, how long has the club been around?
The MEC Run Crew has been around for a few years however MEC Trail Run Crew at Pacific Spirit Park is new this summer.
Tell us a bit about your members! What level of runners do you cater to?
We are a social run group and usually complete between 5-7 km. We are a no-drop format and anyone is welcome!
Where/when do you usually meet/run?
We meet Wednesdays at 6pm at the MEC West Broadway store and Saturdays at 9:30am at Pacific Spirit Park.
Any cost to be a member/join?
Our runs are free!
Is your group affiliated with any events?
MEC puts on a number of trail and road races throughout the year. Our Run Crew is a great way to supplement training for any of the MEC events.
Any cool routes/ favourite areas to run in your city that you would like to recommend to other runners?
If you're a road runner a great place to run is anywhere along the seawall. It's flat, there's no stop lights and you get beautiful scenery! The false creek/science world area is a nice place to start; you can make loops of different distances by crossing over any of the 3 bridges.
If you're more interested in trails, Lynn Loop at Lynn Headwaters Regional Park is a nice 10km loop with a mix of groomed and technical terrain.
Anything else that we should know?
If you're a road runner and want to make the transition to trail, Pacific Spirit Park is the perfect place to start. It's a beautiful forest setting with mostly groomed trails that eases you into single track and hills.
