Toronto Runs You Might Like - September

The summer may be gearing down, but there's still plenty of good days to run your little heart out. And we've got the best road races, trail runs, and OCRs to get you out and about this September.

Road Runs


Night Race Toronto

Date: September 9, 2017
Distance: 5k, 10k

Take a 5k or 10k run through the streets of Toronto at dusk. Paint your face, wear your favourite glow-in-the-dark clothes, and strap on a headlamp. The post-race celebrations include a beer tent, prizes, and live music!

MEC Toronto Road Race SIX

Date: September 10, 2017
Distance: 5k, 10k, half marathon, marathon

The second last MEC Toronto road run of the year gives you an option to run one of four race distances, from 5k right up to a full marathon! The course is a loop at Tommy Thompson Park, and all distances are under $30 to run if you register before race day!

Don Doan Dash

Date: September 10, 2017
Distance: 5k

Head up to Brampton to participate in this scenic 5k loop around Professor's Lake. This course is flat and fast, with only a few hills. Perfect for beginners!

B&O Yorkville Run

The Yorkville Run is super popular for a couple of reasons - you get to run through one of Toronto's swankiest neighbourhoods and you get some pretty sweet swag from luxury brand names. 

Toronto Island Run

Toronto's Centre Island plays host to a laidback 5k/10k run hosted by the Longboat Roadrunners. Centre Island is a ferry ride away from downtown Toronto. As you run the circumferance of the island you'll get spectacular views of the city, from east to west.

Terry Fox Run

The Terry Fox Run is an annual Canada wide event (actually hundreds of locally organized events) that help to raise money and awareness for cancer research. There are no entry fees, and while donations are encouraged, no minimum donations are required. This event is always a great day out!

Famous Canadian Beer Run

Date: September 17, 2017
Distance: 5k

If you haven't been to Ontario Place in awhile, the Famous Canadian Beer Run is a great opportunity to reacquaint yourself with the iconic downtown Toronto play park. You'll run through the four interconnected islands, past the Cinesphere and the silo buildings. Your registration includes entrance to the Toronto Craft Beer and Food Festival and four beer/beverage chips!

Harvest Half Marathon

Date: September 23, 2017
Distance: Half-marathon, quarter-marathon

This half and quarter marathon is a great training opportunity for Boston marathon hopefuls. The flat and fast road course in Wellesley Township is mostly rural two-lane roads. You'll get the full country experience with this half and quarter marathon. You may run beside Boston Marathon winner Wesley Korir!

Oasis ZooRun

Date: September 23, 2017
Distance: 5k, 10k

Like animals? Like exotic animals? Like looking at exotic animals while you run? This popular Toronto run (part of the Canada Running Series) may be just what you're looking for. Runners in this race get a chance to follow a scenic 5k or 10k loop through the Toronto Zoo grounds. The race also has a cub run where kids get to run a short (approximately 500 metres), scenic route right past the giraffes and zebras! 

Runway Run

Date: September 23, 2017
Distance: 5k

Toronto Pearson International Airport (or YYZ if you fancy) isn't the most likely of places for a 5k but once a year they close down a runway for this fun and fast 5k. It's a unique opportunity to run on a tarmac normally reserved for jumbo jets. This race sells out every year so get on it!

Toronto Corporate Run

Distance: 5k

If your office is the kind of place that loves to challenge each other outside business hours, the Toronto Corporate Run is a perfect opportunity for you and your officemates to get running together and support a worthy cause. 

Trail Runs


Ragnar Trail Relay Cottage Country

Date: September 8-9, 2017
Distance: 24 hours of relay fun!

You and 8 of your best running pals (or 4 of your Ultra running pals) team up to conquer the Ragnar Trail Relay Cottage Country edition in Orrilia's beautiful Hardwood Ski and Bike over 24 hours. When you're not running, you'll enjoy all of the comforts of a camping trip in Ontario's wilderness with bonfires, s'mores, and good vibes. The challenge is worth it!

Haliburton Forest Trail Run

Distance: 12K, 26K, 50K, 50 mile, 4-person 100 mile relay

There's really something for everyone in the Haliburton Forest Trail Run. Located just south of Algonquin Park, this privately-owned forest tract is a wilderness paradise. There's plenty of aid stations along the route with delicious food, and the scenery is peak-Ontario beauty. 

5 Peaks Ontario Race 4

Speaking of peak Ontario, the 5 Peaks Ontario Race 4 is another great trail race through Ontario's awesome conservation spots. This 5 Peaks race is located just north of Brampton at Heart Lake, 45 minutes outside of Toronto. Your swag includes a S'well-style 5 Peaks water bottle, valued at $40!

Run for the Toad

Distance: 
12.5k, 25k, 50k or 50k relay

Pinehurst Lake Conservation Area outside Paris, Ontario is the annual home of Run for the Toad. It's a family-oriented ultra race that has opportunities for all race levels to participate, starting with a 12.5k. 

Don Olson Classic

Date: September 30, 2017
Distance: 5k

This 5k trail run is a family-friendly opportunity to head up to Albion Hills Conservation Area. This is the easiest trail run in September so if you're just starting out as a trail runner, the Don Olson Classic is your best bet to get going on the uneven terrain.

Prison Break Race Hamilton

Prison Break is a 5k or 7.5k OCR with a bit of a twist. Participants end up racing through obstacles while attempting to evade on course "prison guards."

Mudmoiselle Guelph

Cancer fights dirty, but so does this unique women's-only fundraising 5k OCR. You'll get filthy but it's for a worthy cause so go ahead and test your endurance, strength, and ability to stomach a muddy obstacle course race with your girlfriends.

Brave T.O.

Inspired by Toronto's first responders, paramedics, police officers, and firefighters, this obstacle course race is filled with real-life challenges like the dummy-carry, ladder climb, and wall repel.
