Thanksgiving has become the largest running event of the year as participants flock (no pun intended) to events across the country. Hedge against stuffing yourself later with a festive way to bridge the gap from morning coffee to football & feasting. There's good cheer, costumes and plenty of competitive spirit for those inclined to run hard from the gun to the finish line and stright to pumpkin pie!

One of Seattle's premier Thanksgiving themed running and walking events is the Green Lake Gobble & Mashed Potato Munch Off. Taking place at Green Lake Park on the Sunday before Thanksgiving, the event consists of a Certified 10k run/walk, a 5k run/walk, a free kids dash and a post-race celebration that includes the crowd pleasing Mashed Potato Munch Off competitive eating contest and an onsite beer garden. Proceeds benefit Union Gospel Mission’s food bank.

Hopelink’s Annual Turkey Trot 5k family Fun Run & walk is a festive holiday tradition! The community comes together to support programs that help thousands of neighbors throughout the winter months. This event brings together more than 1,500 people for a morning of fun and festivities – including an expanded fair at Marina Park with balloon art, costume contests, face painting, photos, giveaways and so much more! The Montlake Community Club is pleased to announce the annual Thanksgiving morning 5K Turkey Trot & Kids Run. Before Thanksgiving dinner get outside with your neighbors and move your feet through Seattle’s beautiful Washington Park Arboretum! Net proceeds will be donated to the University District Food Bank, this year the goal is to donate $30,000 to the Food Bank. It's a great cause and fun for the whole family, kids as young as 2 years old have run this event!

The annual Woodinville Turkey Trot 5K will once again launch on Thanksgiving Day moving along the Sammamish River Trail. Join in for a fun morning with family and friends. There's a kid's Thanksgiving day parade this year too with a trumpet and snare drum to lead the parade at Wilmont park.  All kids dressed in their Turkey attire are welcome to join the parade. Whether your a competitive athlete, recreational runner or family strider, the Woodinville Turkey Trot is a fun morning with race t-shirts, finisher medals, age group winner awards and online finisher results. Fun for the whole family!

Join Snohomish Running Company for the annual Mukilteo Turkey Trot 5k/10k on Thanksgiving morning at Kamiak High School in Mukilteo. This fun, family friendly event is perfect for a personal record and a great way to burn off some calories before the holiday meal. Walkers, strollers and runners all welcome. Registration includes chip timing, a personalized bib, and the first 1,500 participants registered receive pajama pants (with pocket this year!). Another notable is the top 3 male and female finishers in both distances, and the top Age Group finishers receive a pumpkin pie as their prize.

The course is flat, fast and family friendly. 90% of the course runs away from traffic on the wide-open carriage trail path that winds through the Lake Hills Greenbelt Park. Earn your turkey dinner Thanksgiving day by helping raise money to feed those who are less fortunate. Particpants can bring pets too!

Held in the Redmond Watershed Preserve, the annual Turkey Day 5k and 5 Mile is a great event for the entire family. Male and female race winners get a pie! The rest of us can dress in a Thanksgving themed costume and come dressed in your best dressed “turkey” legs to vie for costume contest honors.

Come to gorgeous Magnuson Park on the shore of Lake Washington on Thanksgiving morning to race 5k, 10k or 15k on the scenic course. The theme this year and every year is run more = eat more! This is the largest of the monthly Magnuson runs, be sure to arrive early and leave a bit of time to park and get your race bib. Bring any type of food, perishable or non-perishable and it goes to the University Food bank, plus this event is a fundraiser for the local nonprofit Teen Feed. We're betting on delicious pies for top competitors  of the 10k and 15k again this year!
