Houston Runs You Might Like - March

Spring time is in the air... and its racing season! Whether you are preparing for the Boston Marathon or a local track race, March is the time of year when runners all over the country are training hard and starting to toe the line at some great events. Check out these Houston area events for your next race. 

Road Runs

The Woodlands Marathon


Date: March 3, 2018
Distance: 5k, Half Marathon and Marathon

Each year thousands of runners come out for The Woodlands Marathon. This fast and flat loop course shows off all the beautiful aspects of the Woodlands. Take on the challenge of running a full or half Marathon, test your speed over the 5 km distance, or gather a group of friends for a fun Marathon Relay.  Whatever distance you choose, know that by being part of the event you are supporting the local running community and helping the Woodlands Marathon Management group raise funds for local and regional non-profits.

Race Against Violence

Date: March 3, 2018
Distance: 5k

Race Against Violence Houston is an annual competitive 5k run, walk, kids fun run and family festival to benefit the Houston Area Women's Center. Funds raised support HAWC as we work to assist those who have been impacted by domestic violence and sexual assault through services such as advocacy, counseling, and shelter. For more than 40 years the Houston Area Women's Center has been supporting Houstonians in need.

Bayou City Classic

Date: March 17, 2018
Distance: 5k and 10k

The Bayou City Classic 10k is one of Houston's premier 10k races! The event has been a Houston tradition for more than 30 years and attracts more than 1,000 runners every year. Proceeds from the Bayou City Classic go towards helping maintain and develop trails for running and walking in Houston's city parks.

Run Houston! Minute Maid Park

Date: March 24, 2018
Distance: 5k and 10k

The Run Houston! Race Series was created to showcase unique venues throughout the Houston metro area. The Minute Maid Park race starts and finishes at the home of the Houston Astros! This 5k and 10k run is the second race in the Run Houston! race series. Each race features a family-friendly atmosphere and offers something for all ages and skill levels including kids 1k runs.

Trail Runs

Seabrook Lucky Trail Marathon

Date: March 16 - 18, 2018
Distance: 5k, Half Marathon, and Marathon

This popular event has been known for its enthusiastic volunteers, great goodie bag and awesome post-race party. The races are held on the Seabrook nature trails surrounded by a diverse habitat of both fresh and salt marsh, the coastline of the Galveston Bay, wetlands, and wild-life and bird sanctuaries. The trails consist of crushed granite surface. Choose from a variety of races including a 5K, Half Marathon or Full Marathon, In addition to participating in a single race, runners can enter one of the challenges by finishing two races.

San Felipe Shootout

Date: March 24, 2018
Distance: 5k, 10k, and Half Marathon

If you are looking for a great trail run, head to San Felipe for this super course in Stephen F Austin State Park. The race is sanctioned by the USATF, meets the ATRA Standards and is part of the Trail Racing Over Texas TROT Cup. Cutoff time is 5pm for all races.

Spartan Race Houston

Date: March 24, 2018
Distance: Obstacle Course Race

The Spartan Sprint is this OCR's shortest distance which means it is perfect for athletes of all levels. Whether you are a Spartan first timer, or a seasoned racer, the 3+ Mile Sprint packs in more than 20 Signature Spartan Obstacles including mud, fire, walls and barbed wire. If you think you can’t do it, you’re wrong. Get to the starting line and show yourself what you are capable of.

Fun Runs

Causeway FunD Run/Walk

Date: March 3, 2018
Distance: 5k

The School of Health Professions Causeway FunD 5K Run/Walk will take runners and walkers to the top of the Galveston Causeway and back. Kids can participate in the 1k fun run/walk. The UTMB School of Health Professions' Causeway FunD Run/Walk benefits SHP student scholarships. It is one of only two yearly races on the causeway, which spans Galveston Bay.
