Get to Know Your Running Clubs: November Project Vancouver
In this edition of Get to Know Your Running Clubs we chatted with Graham Snowden about the November Project; a morning fitness group that happens right in the city. Yes yes, we know that they’re not a running club in the traditional sense, but so many runners that we know attend that we just had to hear what all the fuss was about.
Hi Graham! Tell me a bit about your club history, how long have you been around?
November Project (trademark!) is a free fitness movement that was born in Boston as a way to stay in shape during cold New England months. It’s now present in multiple cities across North America, including here in Vancouver!
Tell us a bit about your membership? What level of runners do you cater to?
Our members vary from Olympic medalists, professional athletes, marathoners, triathletes, current and former collegiate athletes all the way to complete fitness rookies and recent couch potatoes just looking to kickstart their healthy life choices.
We’re all about using a simple sense of accountability (verbal) to motivate and encourage people of all ages, shapes, sizes and fitness levels to get out of their beds and get moving.
Where/when do you usually meet?
6:29AM Wednesday mornings. Oh, and we’re weatherproof.
Any cost to be a member/join?
$0. Just Show Up. Free Fitness.
Are you affiliated with any events?
No affiliations at this time!
Where are your favourite spots to run in/around the city?
We are everywhere and you will feel our energy. We run everywhere. The North Shore, SeaWall, in front of your house …… on the spot.
Do you have any favourite races?
Anything where people are pushing themselves and empowering those around them. It might be Boston, it might be a Ragnar Relay, it might be an obstacles course. You will know November Project runners are at an event because you will find us hugging, you will find us high fiving, you will us cheering everyone on. You will find us having the most fun, and yes, you will also likely find us on the podium ;)
Anything else that we should know?
We are about empowering people through free, fun and fierce workouts. If you think that you’re not fit enough to join the group, stop thinking and come see what the fuss is all about. Also, I have a habit of doing 5 burpees for every first timer that comes out on Wednesdays.
