2017 is upon us which means that it's once again time for us to guide you through to road race glory with the RunGuides Vancouver Road Race Series Guide.

Read on to learn about some of the most popular road race series in and around Vancouver. Get race series summaries, learn about any cool swag you get for completing races, and justify your post run meal with our super scientific doughnut justifier.

Canada Running Series West

Canada Running Series operates a number of road races across Canada. Their western series spans now focuses on two races, the popular Scotia Half in the summer, and the Eastside 10k in the fall.

Number of runs in this series: 2

What are the races?

Total distance if you run the all the events: 15 km - 31.1km

How many doughnuts does that justify?

Our race nutrition team says that you can justify 2 - 4 doughnuts if you run the series

Do you get anything cool for completing the entire series?

A brand new car!!! (no we’re just kidding), but you do get a big fat discount when you sign up to multiple races early in the season. 

RunVan

The Vancouver International Marathon Society will once again be hosting the RunVan race series. The series kicks off with the BMO Vancouver Marathon in May and finishes up in November with the always popular Fall Classic Run.

Number of runs in the series: 3

What are the races?

Total distance if you run the all the events: 23 km - 73.3 km

What’s my doughnut count on that?

We will allow you a guiltless 3 - 7 delicious glazed treats depending on your race distances.

Do you get anything cool for completing the entire series?

Yes! Runners who complete all three races qualify for the "RunVan" hat-trick" and can get their hands on a special gear given out in the fall. 

MEC Vancouver Road Race Series

MEC has continued their trend of offering low cost, timed road races with their lower mainland race series. This series has merged the former Vancouver, and Langley races into a series of events that span across the entire metro Vancouver area.

Number of runs in the series: 10

What are the races?

Total distance if you run the all the events: 55 km - 186.6 km

Sooooo, how many doughnuts?

Run the series and you can treat yourself to a minimum of 6 doughnuts, or run the max distance and crush 20 doughnuts without retribution!!

Do you get anything cool for completing the entire series?

MEC currently doesn't have a series completion gift but they do offer some crazy discounts on season passes, and runners do typically get savings on in store gear as well. 

Lower Mainland Race Series

The Lower Mainland Race Series provides Vancouver runners with an opportunity to compete in an age group based series across a number of different runs sanctioned by BC Athletics.

eastside 10k

Number of runs in this series: 9

What are the races?

Total distance if you run the all the events: 87.2 km

I want my doughnut count!

We're going to let you get away with 10 doughnuts for this series. A bit more than the usual count, but we figure that you'll be racing pretty hard and deserve the extra honey cruller.

Do you get anything cool for completing the entire series?

Once you run 5 of the races you will be eligible to rank for age group awards which are given out at the end of the season to the top 5 point getters across each age group. 

parkrun

Tremendously popular in Europe, now in Vancouver! parkrun is a weekly, free, timed 5k run that has recently begun running Saturday's in Richmond. The runs are open to people of all ages and abilities, and are timed with an individual barcode that tracks your stats online.

What are the races?

Total distance if you run the all the events: 260km

How many douhnuts do I get to consume?

Technically we would say half a doughnut per parkrun, but in the interest of viatlity do one per week.

Do you get anything cool for completing the entire series?

parkrun keeps your stats in a global database with a ton of neat unlockables as you reach various milestones!

Try Events Series

Try Events operates a series of road races that happen across the lower mainland, from downtown all the way to the Langley area!

Number of runs in this series: 8

What are the races?

Total distance if you run the all the events: 40 km - 152 km

How many doughnuts are we talking here?

The low end doughnut count on this series is 4, we'll let you get away with 15 if you max the distance on each race. No judgement if you eat them all at the doughnut dash.

Do you get anything cool for completing the entire series?

No magic ring for completing the series but Try Events does offer a season pass that gives a discounted rate on all of the events.
