Scotiabank Calgary Marathon
The Scotiabank Calgary Marathon is, not surprisingly, the crown jewel and main event of the Calgary Marathon Race Weekend. This race is western Canada's oldest official marathon and has recently been gaining national recognition winning the title of "best road race in Alberta" a number of times in recent years. The marathon usually attracts a field of close to 2,000 runners but will feel much larger on race day with over 11,000 people typically participating in one of the multiple distance options that race weekend offers.
Expect to run through a number of residential neighbourhoods, giving an interesting community feel to the race. So, if you're looking to tour Calgary... on foot... for just over 42 kilometers, this may be a good way to do it!
Voted Alberta's Best Road Race in 2014, 2013, 2012, 2010 and 2009. The course is certified by AIMS (Association of International Marathons Society) and by Athletics Alberta and can be used as a qualifier for the Boston Marathon.
Centaur Subaru 21.1K
The half marathon is one of the weekend's fastest growing events. Participants taking on the 21.1km race get to run on the same day and on part of the same course as full marathon participants.
Whether you're training for your first 21.1 km challenge or you're a half marathon veteran, this is a fun race to run! Expect a fantastic course, and a large number of fellow runners to try and pace off of during the day!
Jugo Juice 10K
The Jugo Juice 10k gives runners the chance to participate in Calgary Marathon race weekend without needing to focus on a longer distance event. This event is billed as "a race for everyone" and is an event created around participating whether by walking or by running.
The 10k run typically draws a large and diverse field of runners and walkers and follows a relatively flat course through sections of Calgary. This run is a great kick off to the summer season, and offers runners a chance to get a first hand peak at sections of the marathon course.
