Race Information

Bring your John Wayne grit to the trails and #RunToFightCancer. It’s California the way it used to be. So, bring all the grit you can muster to tackle the rugged coastal trails in John Wayne’s backyard. Join as an individual or as a team to get dusty on the dirt roads and single track trails in Crystal Cove State Park located on the coast between Newport Beach and Laguna Beach. Test your endurance on the challenging climb out of El Moro Canyon and be rewarded with spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean and Catalina Island. After you’ve finished the course, celebrate at the John Wayne Grit Down!

Run Pick of the Month - Independence Day 5K & Firecracker Dash

2,000+ runners. 31st annual race happening on July 4, 2024.

The Village Runner Independence Day 5K is an annual community classic that happens on the 4th of July in Redondo Beach.

Runners can expect chip timing, age division awards, cash prizes to the top three overall male and female runners in the 5K run, and a pretty great pre-race costume contest!

We like that the course is an out and back (you can try and spot your friends). We also like that a portion of all registration fees directly benefit the Redondo Beach Educational Foundation and other local schools.
