Organized by the Tokyo Marathon Foundation, the Tokyo Marathon is an annual 42.195 km race held in Tokyo, Japan, and is one of the six World Marathon Majors.
The course takes runners through various iconic landmarks in Tokyo, including the Tokyo Tower and the Imperial Palace, and attracts over 30,000 runners from around the world. The marathon is known for its efficient and organized operations and has implemented several measures to reduce its carbon footprint. A unique feature of the Tokyo Marathon is that participants are often cheered on by enthusiastic crowds of spectators dressed in colorful costumes.
The inaugural Tokyo Marathon was held on February 18, 2007, and its theme, “The Day We Unite,” has guaranteed thousands of runners, volunteers, and spectators annually.
