In the late 1880s Butte boomed as a mining town, it was once called The Richest Hill on Earth. The mine owners battled for control of the profits, and the most successful mine owners were known as the Copper Kings.

The 100 mile loop course starts and ends in Butte and includes 63 miles of sweet Continental Divide Trail goodness. The elevation at the start is 5,650 ft, the highest point is at 8,400 feet, and you will enjoy a total of 14,426 feet of vertical gain and loss.
