Servus Calgary Marathon
The Calgary Marathon Race Weekend is the premier race of the Calgary Marathon Society and Canada’s longest-running Marathon. Winner of the Best Road Race in Alberta for several years, this event is a challenging, competitive, and fun event with a race designed for everyone of any level. There is a 50KM Ultra, marathon, half-marathon, 10KM, 5KM family run and walk, and kids' marathon.
Here's a rundown of what you'll expect over the weekend.
For newcomers to ultra-running, the 60K Ultra is a great way to get into longer distances, and for ultra veterans, it’s a wonderful way to be part of a big city, mass participation event!
The Calgary Marathon is, not surprisingly, the crown jewel and main event of the Calgary Marathon Race Weekend. This race is Western Canada's oldest official marathon and has recently been gaining national recognition winning the title of "best road race in Alberta" a number of times in recent years. The marathon usually attracts a field of close to 2,000 runners but will feel much larger on race day with over 11,000 people typically participating in one of the multiple distance options that race weekend offers.
The half marathon is one of the weekend's fastest-growing events. Participants taking on the 21.1km race get to run on the same day and on part of the same course as full marathon participants. Expect a fantastic course, and a large number of fellow runners to enjoy the day with!
The 10k gives runners the chance to participate in the Calgary Marathon race weekend without needing to focus on a long-distance event. This event is billed as "a race for everyone" and is an event created around participating whether by walking or by running.
The 10k run typically draws a large and diverse field of runners and walkers and follows a relatively flat course through sections of Calgary. This run is a great kick-off to the summer season and offers runners a chance to get a first-hand peek at sections of the marathon course.
5K Family Walk & Run
The Calgary Marathon 5K is a runner and walker-friendly event that welcomes everyone from 5k speed demons to families looking to get out for a casual walk.
The run is a simple and straightforward 5k out and back that starts and finishes at the same spot as the Calgary marathon. This race typically starts a little bit later in the day and offers a fantastic opportunity to be part of one of the largest running event days in Calgary.
This is a unique format that allows young people to participate in their first marathon. Kids start running or walking their marathon one KM at a time completing 41 KM by race day. On race day the kids will complete the last 1.2 KM of their marathon at the Calgary Marathon.
