The DRC (Dallas Running Club) Half Marathon, referred to by locals as "The Half", started in 1976 to fill the niche between the 10k and marathon in the local racing scene. The DRC Half looms on the racing calendar as a premier event in the North Texas running community. One of the oldest half marathons in the US, the race is frequented by elites, casual runners, run-walkers, and walkers. The weather tends to be quite good on the scenic lakeside course, with some runners pointing specifically for this race, while others use it to gauge fitness for a winter marathon.
