2016 2nd Half Marathon Race Report
"...the real treat – and my other motivation for running this race – was the Half It All Challenge medal."
2016 San Francisco Marathon
"Running across the bridge is my favorite, in part because I'm obsessed with the bridge and also because it's an out-and-back section where you can see everyone."
San Francisco Marathon 2017 Race Report
"What goes down must go up in SF, so after the screaming downhill came a nice and long uphill, around miles 11-12, that we grinded up up up to get over into Golden Gate Park."
The 2017 San Francisco Marathon 52.4 Mile Ultra - Two Sides Of A Great City - Race Report

2017 San Francisco Marathon - Race Recap

"The nocturnal animals lurked everywhere in the fog, including deer, coyote, and what looked like a family of skunk (run away!)"

Race Information

The San Francisco Marathon has something for everyone. Runners can participate in the full marathon route, or choose to run the first half marathon (which covers the first part of the full marathon course) or the 2nd half marathon (which covers the second part of the full marathon route). There is also a 5K available to runners who don't want to commit to the marathon or half marathon distance, or an ultra distance race if the full marathon isn't enough for you.

Expect to experience a number of different looks depending on which course you choose to race.

Full Marathon

Whether you’re taking on your first marathon or your 50th, the San Francisco Marathon course will takes runners from the waterfront, over the Golden Gate Bridge, past iconic landmarks and through historic neighborhoods.

First Half Marathon

The 1st Half Marathon takes runners over the Golden Gate Bridge, past the Embarcadero near the Ferry Building, the seals at Fisherman’s Wharf, and through the serene calm of Golden Gate Park.

2nd Half Marathon

Beginning in Golden Gate Park, the 2nd Half Marathon takes participants through historic and quintessential San Francisco neighborhoods, including Haight-Ashbury, Dogpatch and the Mission District, the race then heads past AT&T Park, home of the SF Giants, just before the finish line.

5K

Whether you’re racing for speed or pushing your little one as part of our stroller division, the fast, flat 5K course offers views of iconic landmarks, such the Bay waterfront, Treasure Island, Coit Tower and more.

Ultra

Ultra runners get to run the full marathon course in reverse, with a brief run detour along the Great Highway, before joining other runners to complete the Official Full Marathon course. Twice the running = twice the fun??
