Mt. Umunhum Trail Run
Welcome to the Mt. Umunhum Trail Run, where you can choose runs of 12k, 22k, 33k or 52k, each with plenty of elevation gain.
If you grew up in the south bay area of Northern California, then you probably often stared at the 8-story block of cement known as the Almaden Air Force Station. Just recently, the Mount Umunhum Conservancy and Midpeninsula Regional Open Space restored the magnificent block and surrounding mountain top. The space just opened to the public only recently. While you can hike or run up the new 3.7 mile single-track trail, they will not allow a special event permit to run up to the top. So, we will use the Quicksilver 100K/50K course as a model for the Mt. Umunhum Trail Run.
The 52K will be one of the hardest in the area with over 10,000 feet of elevation gain. This is the perfect training run for Quicksilver 100K in which you will get the taste of "Dog Meat" (AKA Priest Rock Trail)... TWICE!
All events will start and finish at Mockingbird Hill Lane entrance. You will enjoy steep and glorious trails as they wind through the most successful mercury mines in North America. Oh, and watch out for our mountain lion friends.
All this running is really just an excuse for an amazing post-race BBQ.
