Tell us a bit about your club history, how long has the club been around?
The Boston Bulldogs were established in 2008 by Clinician and "Coach" Mike Ferullo, at the Shattuck Hospital HopeFound shelter and stabilization program. The Club was adopted by Pine Street Inn in 2012 to provide members with the opportunity to participate in a positive social and wellness program supporting their recovery. In October 2015, the Boston Bulldogs Running Club was established as an independent coed non-profit 501(c)3 running club (through the Road Runners Club of America).
The Boston Bulldogs Running Club promotes wellness and recovery in a safe, anonymous and supportive community for all those adversely affected by addiction: those in recovery, their families and friends, as well as the clinical community and the community-at-large.
The Club promotes an integrated approach to wellness to encourage physical, social and emotional growth with weekly walks and runs, team races, wellness coaches, sponsors and seminars, and closed recovery meetings. The Club welcomes participation from all who support the mission, as we journey together to discover the kind-hearted warrior and true potential within each one of us.
Tell us a bit about your membership? What level of runners do you cater to?
The Club welcomes and encourages runners and walkers of all levels: dreamers, beginners, as well as those with running experience, past or present.
What part of the city does your group usually run in/around?
We run Thursday evening and Saturday morning at Cleveland Circle. We also have a South Shore affiliate that meets on Tuesday evening and Sunday morning at Nelson State Park in Plymouth.
Any cost to be a member/join?
Club fees are $30 for an individual and $50 for a family membership. Fees are waived for members in recovery who cannot pay.
Is your group affiliated with any events?
We host an Annual Boston Bulldogs Run for Recovery 5K in May at Franklin Park.
Do you have any favourite local races?
The Becca Pizzi Family Fun Run, Brendan's Home Run 5K (Belmont), and the BAA Half Marathon (Boston).
Anything else that we should know?
Our Club is a community of support open to all who endorse the Club's vision and the concept of wellness and recovery.
