Get to Know Your Running Clubs - 261 Fearless Metro Club Denver
In this edition of Get to Know Your Running Clubs we chatted with Tawni Leon about the 261 Fearless Club Denver.
Want to learn more about them? Read on!
Tawni is a wife, a mother and an entrepreneur. She works in the beauty industry and is a runner…sometimes!
What area(s) of the city does your group usually run in/around?
We mainly meet at City Park, though I'd like to include Cheeseman Park in future. Both parks are not far from downtown Denver. It would fun to include special activities such as hiking, snowshoeing, and trail running. We have so many beautiful trails that cater to all abilities, and just a short drive away.
Tell us a bit about your club history, how long has the club been around?
Our club began in June 2017, so we are quite new. I'd like to grow our club membership in 2018, as well as adding club runs in Boulder and the surrounding areas.
Tell us a bit about your members! What level of runners do you cater to?
At this moment we do not have paid members, however, there are many women who are interested in learning more about 261 Fearless. They are invited to join in our weekly runs and learn what all the fun is about.
Where/when does your club usually meet/run?
We meet on Monday's at our beautiful City Park Pavilion. We have access to the popular 5280 path which is 3.2 miles long. Additionally, in front of the Pavilion is a wonderful lake with a fountain as well as many species of birds. The park provides us with many choices and places to run.
Are your group runs mostly casual or more structured workouts?
Mostly structured workouts.
Any cost to be a member/join?
Yes, the cost for membership is $52.61 yearly. If they do not want to join after two runs, but want to join us occasionally, we ask for $2.61 each run.
Any cool routes/favorite areas to run in your city that you would like to recommend to other runners? Why do you like those?
I would recommend any of our city parks. They are beautiful and easily accessible. You can run year-round as they are well maintained.
Do you have any favorite local races? Outside of anything that you're affiliated with of course :)
Yes, SkirtSports 13'er, which is held in June in Louisville, Colorado. It's an all-women's race with distances of 5K, 10K, and a half-marathon. The support and encouragement is amazing.
Anything else that we should know?
I would like to invite any woman who is interested in joining us, please do so. We like to have fun and make new friends, it is social and non-competitive, and for women of all abilities. Please join us!
