Get to Know Your Running Clubs - A Snail's Pace Running Club

In this edition of Get To Know Your Running Clubs we spoke with Bob Morris, the director of A Snail's Pace Running Club.

Want to learn more about them? Read on!

A Snail's Pace Running Club

Tell us a bit about your club history, how long has the club been around?

The original A Snails Pace Running Shop opened in Fountain Valley in 1979 and the running club soon followed. As more ASP stores open up, more chapters were added to the club, (which is co-sponsored by New Balance). In addition to the weekly fun runs, there are monthly meetings at local pizza shops and social parties throughout the year.

Tell us a bit about your members! What level of runners do you cater to?

With roughly 400 members, we have runners at all levels of ability, so you will always have friends to run with for training and racing! There is also a Racing Team available for those who can meet the qualifying standards.

Where/when does your club usually meet/run?

Fountain Valley Chapter - every Wednesday, 6:15pm @ Round Table Pizza parking lot, 11095 Warner Ave, Fountain Valley CA, adjacent to Mile Square Park.
Mission Viejo Chapter - every Wednesday, 6:15pm @ A Snail's Pace Running Shop, 24451Alicia Pkwy., Mission Viejo CA.

Do you have any favorite local races? Outside of anything that you're affiliated with of course :)

The Brea 8k, Laguna Hills Half Marathon, Downtown Anaheim 5k, Pride of the Valley 5k, Dana Point Turkey Trot, and the LA Marathon.

Anything else that we should know?

A Snail's Pace also has a Running Academy for those looking for a more structured training program.
We recently had the pleasure of meeting Jamie McDonald who is running across America to raise money for children's hospitals. He spoke at our monthly meeting and we organized a send off run for him as he left Orange County. You can check him out at: www.jamiemcdonald.org and www.facebook.com/jamiemcdonald.org/
We would encourage other running clubs to come out and run with Jamie and provide some moral support as he passes through their area.
