In this edition of Get to Know Your Running Clubs we chatted with Meredith James about the San Francisco Road Runners Club (SFRRC)

Tell us a bit about the club history

SFRRC has been around since 2001. We started as a club for marathon training, and while we still have a lot of marathoners, have expanded to include runners of all paces with all distance race goals.

I've been a member of SFRRC for about 3.5 years and have been a member of the board of directors for almost 3 of those years. With the club, I've trained for 3 marathons and have served as the VP of Communications and the VP of Volunteer Engagement as Board member. When I'm not running, I'm the Financial Compliance Manager for a charter school network in the Bay Area.

Nice! Tell us a bit about your members

We have over 350 members, who range from 7:30 per mile pace to 12:30 pace. Our members generally train for longer distance races, like half and full marathons, but you'll find quite a few people training for shorter distances or people who are just out for the camaraderie of running with friends!

Where/when do you usually meet and run?

We run all over! We have weekday runs from Kezar stadium and our Saturday runs rotate through Marina Green Triangle, Ocean Beach and various running stores throughout the city.

We usually meet Tuesdays and Thursday at 6:30pm at the West Gate of Kezar. Saturdays at 7:45am at various locations around the city, most frequently the Marina Green Triangle.

Any cost to be a member/join?

Membership is $150/year for new runners, and $120/year for returning runners but "test runs" are free!

Where are your favourite spots to run in/around the city?

A bridge run during sunrise is the most magical. Otherwise, I love running through the Presidio. The hills are challenging, but I'm always in awe of how such a beautiful spot can be located in such a bustling city.

Any local races that you really love? 

Anything in SF - Giants Race, San Francisco Marathon, etc!

Anything else that we should know?

We're a really friendly bunch! Most members will tell you that they're really good friends with their fellow Road Runners!
